Here are the lyrics to the songs on Geoff's first album, a solo venture from 2011 featuring Paul Deck on drums and percussion and Monique Canniere on violin.
Odyssey by Geoff Hansplant
Won’t you step inside my car
Let me take you for a drive
Anywhere you want to go
Just sit back enjoy the ride
Only one thing you should know
There’ll be a certain sacrifice
Wander down a winding road
Leave your heartache back in town
See for everything you’ve lost
Something’s waiting to be found
Love can be an Albatross
If you let it weigh you down
C
H I’ve been yearning to make that journey
O From the moment I first met myself
R Gonna leave behind the things that had me blind
U Stack the past upon the shelf
S
Every Siren has a song
Every heart an Odyssey
Every sailor sets the stars
Every river runs to sea
Every lover counts his scars
Every driver holds the key
Underneath a harvest moon
Or drowning in the pouring rain
There’s a marker every mile
Every mile another name
Some you hold a little while
Some you never meet again
C
H I’ve been yearning to make that journey
O From the moment I first met myself
R Gonna leave behind the things that had me blind
U Stack the past upon the shelf
S
Every passion has a price
We never pass this way again
All the love we thought we owned
Scattered leaves before the wind
Straight ahead the great unknown
In the trunk the could have beens
Every passion has a price
We never pass this way again
All the love we thought we owned
Scattered leaves before the wind
Straight ahead the great unknown
In the trunk the could have beens
Hit the gas and we’ll be gone
Let the Odyssey begin.

Signs and Wonders by Geoff Hansplant
Fish gonna walk upon this land
Toads gonna rain down from the sky (my oh my)
Somebody smarter than me
Will have to reckon why
Everybody’s out there looking for a sign
Somebody who’ll turn the water into wine
Staring straight past the miracles
happening to them all the time
In a baby’s smile
In a woman’s tear
I say there’s wonder enough
To trust in the mystery
And know that all the evidence is here
You know I’m telling you straight, I ain’t speaking in tongues
You can wait on Messiahs and maybe they’ll come
Or seek the truth in your heart
where its been all along
Moon’s gonna swallow up the sun
Day turn as cold and black as night (outta sight)
How do we live in the dark and
still expect to see the light
You’ve held the universe
In a drop of dew
Now get up off your knees
And go to the mountain
Because that mountain ain’t coming to you
Any road will take you where you’ve gotta go
Any place you land is where you’re meant to be
Its the road you discover
it ain’t the signs you see
Yes its the road you discover,
it ain’t the signs you see

Pilgrim’s Progress by Geoff Hansplant
Must’ve took a wrong turn somewhere up the line
Nothing here resembles what I had in mind
Long ago when I set out on this road of life
I was found but now I’m lost
I could see but now I’m blind
Once again headed straight for a detour sign
Every time I think I find which way to go
Something out of nowhere comes to block the road
Just once I’d like to find myself a road I think I’ve been down twice
Been in the gutter staring at the stars
Waiting for Jupiter to align with Mars
Wondering how it is I never take my own good advice
C
H Flag men every which way I’m going
O Wave me down another lane
R No one ever really knowing
U If I’m gonna ever pass this way again
S
Riding round in circles on the road to glory
Ain’t how I imagined writing my life story
I could use some resolution instead of all this endless plot
There’ve been characters along the way
There were nights that didn’t end for days
Exposition everywhere but not a drop of denouement
C
H Flag men every which way I’m going
O Wave me down another lane
R No one ever really knowing
U If I’m gonna ever pass this way again
S
Must’ve took a wrong turn somewhere up the line
Nothing here resembles what I had in mind
Long ago when I set out on this road of life
I was found but now I’m lost
I could see but now I’m blind
Once again headed straight for a detour sign
I was found but now I’m lost
I could see but now I’m blind
Once again headed straight for a detour sign

Staring At The Stars by Geoff Hansplant
This night
I’m on my own
Just a lonesome traveler
Somewhere between right and wrong
I’m on my own
I’m so turned around
I can’t find my way home
Footprints
In shifting sands
I lost my way somewhere
And I don’t know who I am
In shifting sands
Wand’ring this lonely road
Oh since the world began
Under a cloudless night
B I stop and take my rest by the riverside
R The undone acolyte
I Someone said, “We’re all here in the gutter, D But some of us are staring at
the stars”
G My star keeps rollin’ with the river
E Gonna float me down forever ‘till
I know my heart
Too late
To turn back now
I’ve got a dream to guide me
And I’m gonna see it through somehow
Too late to turn back now
Don’t matter where I’ve been
But only where I’m bound
Under a cloudless night
B I stop and take my rest by the riverside
R The undone acolyte
I Someone said, “We’re all here in the gutter, D But some of us are staring at
the stars”
G My star keeps rollin’ with the river
E Gonna float me down forever ‘till
I know my heart
Too late
To turn back now
I’ve got a dream to guide me
And I’m gonna see it through somehow
Too late to turn back now
Don’t matter where I’ve been
But only where I’m bound
Don’t matter where I’ve been
But only where I’m
bound
Don’t matter where I’ve been
But only where I’m bound

Swimming To The Sun by Geoff Hansplant
Our hearts arrived here on a morning breeze
Voices carried ‘neath the Blue Jay’s wings
Our song came rolling,
Rolling through the falling leaves
And now we’re singing
You know we’re singing in the sun
Ran our fingers in a river of light
Caressed a moment then we let it slide
Poked a hole straight
Up through a slate gray sky
And now we’re swimming
You know we’re swimming to the sun
C And we’re goin’ home
H Back where we belong
O Every gypsy soul
R Keep a rollin’
U Rollin’ on and
S On
Curled our toes up in the sands of time
Chased our shadow down a dark lifeline
Crept past fears like a dog,
Like a dog gone blind
But now we’re dancing
You know we’re dancing in the sun
C And we’re goin’ home
H Back where we belong
O Every gypsy soul
R Keep a rollin’
U Rollin’ on and
S On
Beheld our image in a shallow pool
Chased temptation with the golden rule
Played the lover,
Lord knows we’ve played the fool
Now we’re naked
Just standing naked in the sun
Walked the wire between love and death
Dove into the deep and took a breath
From the bottom,
Saw there was one thing left
Keep on swimming
Just keep on swimming to the sun
Keep on swimming
Always swimming to the sun

Cold Coffee by Geoff Hansplant
"Won't you listen to me people, 'fore I catch that train and ride"
He waved his hand a little, and the conversation died
‘Til you could almost hear a pin drop on that cold, wet night
‘Cept for the ballast buzzing in that neon light
And his voice fell to a whisper, as he stared down at his shoes
Like a man whose pride is all he’d left to lose
“I’ve lived here half a lifetime,” he started to explain
“Leaving on the nine eleven, won’t be coming back again
And I never had a friend but one to call my own
And chased a dream so empty turned my heart to stone
But that’s just by way of saying, for what I’ve learned I paid the price
And if you let me I’ll give you some free advice”
“Don’t be standing on the platform
C With your java in your hand
H Miss your chance to hop that freight and go
O Regret leaves such a bitter taste
R When your castle’s turned to sand
U And the sands of time are fleeting
S They’ll be gone before you know
And a cold cup of coffee
Will be all you’ll have to show”
“And once I loved a young girl, I was sure we’d never part”
His gray eyes misted over, like the windows of his heart
“We lived inside a moment that was lost to time
After thirty winters she’s still on my mind”
He fumbled with a button and brushed away a tear
And the present, past and future all came clear
“Don’t be standing on the platform
C With your java in your hand
H Miss your chance to hop that freight and go
O Regret leaves such a bitter taste
R When your castle’s turned to sand
U And the sands of time are fleeting
S They’ll be gone before you know
And a cold cup of coffee
Will be all you’ll have to show”
“Now that whistle’s growin’ nearer, I’ve gotta see what’s down the line
There’s just so far to travel, and I’ve got so little time”
While his hand produced a ticket for that southbound train
He stumbled out of the station into the pouring rain
And some went back to talking though their future’d been foretold
But in my mouth the coffee just turned cold
“Don’t be standing on the platform
C With your java in your hand
H Miss your chance to hop that freight and go
O Regret leaves such a bitter taste
R When your castle’s turned to sand
U And the sands of time are fleeting
S They’ll be gone before you know
And a cold cup of coffee
Will be all you’ll have to show”
“Don’t be standing on the platform
C With your java in your hand
H Miss your chance to hop that freight and go
O Regret leaves such a bitter taste
R When your castle’s turned to sand
U And the sands of time are fleeting
S They’ll be gone before you know
And a cold cup of coffee
Will be all you’ll have to show”

Good Old Days by Geoff Hansplant
Somebody’s singing a song from yesterday
A melody filtered through a cloud of cigarette haze
And suddenly summer seems so far away
I guess the good old days are gone
I’m sitting here wondering would a matchbox hold my soul
I’d cross the big river, but I just can’t pay the toll
The water’s so muddy; it was clear not long ago
I guess the good old days are gone
C I can still see you
H Coming through that sunlit door
O An image
R Forever etched upon my brain
U But since you walked out
S The sun don’t shine here anymore
When did it grow too late to start all over again?
I bought a telephone; I’ve never heard it ring
Seems all my old friends moved on to other things
I played three aces, but the dealer held four kings
I guess the good old days are gone
C I can still see you
H Coming through that sunlit door
O An image
R Forever etched upon my brain
U But since you walked out
S The sun don’t shine here anymore
When did it grow too late to start all over again?
Nobody knows me or half the men I’ve been
I’m disillusioned like waking from a dream
So lower the curtain, I’ve gotta change my scene
I guess the good old days are gone
I guess the good old days are gone
I guess the good old days are gone

Someone I Used To Know by Geoff Hansplant
Gotta lot of things on my mind
I’m too uptight, I can’t unwind
Came into this joint just looking for a beer
There’s something fishy and it’s going down
Everybody’s in it, all over town
Gonna catch the last train and roll me out of here
A pretty woman sitting at the bar
Asked me if I’d like to see her scar
Just a thin white line, running ear to ear
“Its a longer story than you might think,”
She says, “Why don’t I tell you over a drink?”
“Somethings,” I said, “are better left unclear
You remind me of someone I used to know
When I was a young girl, so long ago
It was Dallas back in ‘63
I think his name was Harvey, or maybe Lee
And he told me we would reap exactly what we sow
There’s a big storm brewing in the west
It’s sure to put us to the test
Bringing fire and wind and rain and baby I don’t know
And if by chance it blows this town away
I’ll pretend not to know you on the judgment day
I’ve a feeling that the last mile is one we walk alone
You remind me of someone I used to know
When I was a young girl, so long ago
California 1969
I was on a trip with Charley, we was feelin’ fine
And he told me we would reap exactly what we sow
From the smokey center of mascaraed eyes
She stared right through my heart’s disguise
To the black box flight recorder of my very soul
I still remember every word she said
‘Cause they rang like anvils pounding in my head
All the way from Memphis to the Gulf of Mexico
You remind me of someone I used to know
When I was a young girl, so long ago
It was Jonestown in the pouring rain
Jim offered me a kool-aid; I only drink champagne
And he told me we would reap exactly what we sow And he told me we would reap exactly what we sow
And he told me we would reap exactly what we sow

Under a Winter Moon by Geoff Hansplant
Good night, sleep tight
The last little house turns out its light
All of our dreams will be coming true
Under a winter moon
Cold hands, warm heart
The fire may go out but our love is the spark
That will shine as bright as a silver spoon
Under a winter moon
C Over the hills
H Over the fields
O Sailing between the stars
R Leading the way to the next bright day
U And all of the challenges we know are ours
S
Soft nights, hard days
Waiting for spring and the sun’s warming rays
We’ll be curled up tight, snug in our cocoon
Under a winter moon
C Over the hills
H Over the fields
O Sailing between the stars
R Leading the way to the next bright day
U And all of the challenges we know are ours
S
Sweet dreams of falling stars
We’ll wake up tomorrow in each others arms
Our love sails tonight on a golden balloon
Under a winter moon
So good night, sleep tight
The last little house turns out its light
All of our dreams will be coming true
Under a winter moon
Under a winter moon
Under a winter moon

End of the Line by Geoff Hansplant
Where do we go from here?
Where do we go from here?
The question is simple
The answer’s unclear
Where do we go from here?
All the faces I’ve known
Traveling their byways alone
Searching the heavens
For a star to guide ‘em home
Where do we go from here?
Was a time I carved a future
Shaped it with my hands
Before the Art of living
Turned that marble into sand
How many rivers we’ve crossed?
How many chances we’ve lost?
Burning our bridges
Just a part of the plan
Where do we go from here?
I loved you and lost you my friend
We lose all we love in the end
Here’s hoping we’ll meet
Should we come ‘round again
Where do we go from here?
From moment to moment
Each footstep in time
We inch our way forward
To the end of the line
I’ll lose you my own little loves
As sure as the rains fall above
Washing my footprints
Away in the flood
Where will I go from here?
Where will I go from here?
Where will I go from here?
Where will I go from here?

Light in the Forest by Geoff Hansplant
Just a broken door in a hollow wind
It swings a lazy time
The bugs fly out, and the bugs fly in
Nobody seems to mind
A tear stained note in a hurried hand
‘Neath a rock upon the table
Says, “I’ve taken all that I can stand,
Gotta go while I’m still able”
c
h Gonna run out in the woods tonight
o No trail, no moon, no compass
r Just a restless heart on an endless flight
u To find that light out in the forest
s
A faded picture in an old gilt frame
Of a dream two hearts had molded
But nothing ever stays the same
No matter how you try to hold it
Mower rusting in an autumn rain
A token of surrender
Like the love that blossomed when the summer came
But withered next November
c
h Gonna run out in the woods tonight
o No trail, no moon, no compass
r Just a restless heart on an endless flight
u To find that light out in the forest
s
Print dress dancing on a washing line
Like the wheat before the harvest
Its never what you take, its what you leave behind
That drags you down the hardest
And its just a broken door in a hollow wind
That swings a lazy time
The bugs fly out and the bugs fly in....
